Penny Withers – Ceramic Artist
The wet clay flows through my hands like a river. A single thought is enough to interrupt the stream and cause ripples.
Complementary layers of glazes are dipped, sprayed or poured across the surface. By observing the way different glazes react together I have built up a repertoire of painterly combinations suggesting landscapes, reflecting the elemental materials and processes in their construction. Firing is completed in electric and wood kilns. This is where the magic happens and the landscape pictures are formed.
